HFC Mouske 92 Runner-up in the Labor Day Invitational!
HFC Mouske 92 took 2nd place in the U12 division of the Labor Day Invitational in Plano, Texas over the weekend. They defeated three Texas teams and tied another to win their bracket and advance to the semi-finals. Mouske 92 also participated in two penalty kick shoot-outs (semi-finals and finals) before taking home the runner-up medal.
Their first game was early Saturday morning against the Houston Stingrays. Mouske 92 defeated the Stingray squad 3-0. That afternoon, Mouske 92 faced the Texas Spirit and won that game 3-0, as well. Sunday morning, Mouske 92 played the DeFeeters from Dallas. The final score was 0-0 and the tie gave the Mouske team enough points to win their bracket and advance to the quarter-finals.
In the quarter-finals, Mouske 92 faced Solar from Dallas. Mouske defeated Solar 1-0 to move on to the semi-finals. Due to the weather and field conditions, the games were cancelled and instead the semi-finals were decided on penalty kicks. Mouske 92 faced the Texans Red team in a shoot-out. The first set of penalty kicks ended with a 4-4 tie. The Texans next kicker missed her shot giving Mouske's team an opportunity to win. Mouske's next shot went in the net and Mouske 92 advanced to the finals with a final score of 5-4.
Mouske 92 was very excited to play in the championship game and had worked very hard to get there; however, the weather did not improve throughout the morning and another round of penalty kicks would decide the champion. Mouske's goalkeeper in both shoot-outs, Beth Nelson, did an exceptional job at defense saving several goals and providing the rest of the team additional opportunities to score. In the end, Sting Royal won the shoot-out 5-4 after eight players from each team shot penalty kicks. It was a very exciting ending to a very competitive tournament! Congratulations girls on a job well done!
